Wives of Maungtaw police receiving basic military skills training

A report in the 7 Day newspaper published on 24 November said the wives of the border guard force members in Maungtaw are participating in basic military skill training. The training will last for a month and it is conducted at the No 1 Border Guard Force Headquarters, based in Kyikan Pyin village in Maungtaw Township. One BGF officer said the main objective of the training is for the participants to have basic self-defense skills. He said the wives of the members of the police force serving in Maungtaw would be also asked to join similar trainings. The Social Affairs Minister of Rakhine State Dr Chan Thar said the women teachers in Maungtaw were substituted with the males and they would need to join training on basic military skills. The two Rohingya women who act in self-defense were shot dead by the security force. The 16 October edition of the state own Myanma Alin newspaper said the two women were shot dead after they attack the security force with knives. Reference: 7 Day Daily 24 November 2016
