Seven Rohingyas arrested and charged on immigration offenses

A group of seven Rohingya youths were arrested on 17 September and charged by the police on immigration related offense. The youth from Minbya were arrested after the car they were travelling was overturned near Thandwe town. They left Minbya two days earlier to be transported outside of the Rakhine State. The car was overturned after the driver felt sleepy while driving, he later run away, leaving the youths behind. They were later arrested by police while hiding near Khaye Pin village in Thandwe, the Daily Eleven newspaper reported on 19 September. According to the police investigation, the seven youths who are aged between 13 to 25, were tried to smuggled out by the driver who charged Kyat 500 000 per person to take them out of the state. The two of the arrested youths are from San Nga Taw internally displaced camp in Kyauktaw, one from Ah Le Kyun and the four are from Minbya. The Thandwe district immigration department said they would be charged under an immigration offence. Reference: Daily Eleven 19 September 2016
