Here is why -
Two extension buildings inside a mosque in Thanlyin Township were demolished at an order by the local authorities. The order for demolishing of the two buildings inside the Darga mosque were issued following a complaint letter send to the township General Administration Department on 28 July by a pro-Buddhist groups.
The news on the construction of the mosque was circulated on the social media and many of the posts said buildings were built to use as mosque. A source close to a trustee of the mosque said, the buildings were being built to accommodate the pilgrims come to the mosque to pray in front of a tomb a saint.
A compliant letter was sent to the Township General Administration Department. The department sent an inception team to the mosque and recommended for demolishing of the new buildings as the inspectors found they were built without permission.
The township municipal authorities met with the two groups, which donated funds for construction of the buildings, along with the trustees of the mosque and a prominent nationalist figure Mingyi Phone Gyi. At the meeting, the trustees have to undertake that the two buildings would be demolished. And demolishing of the building was started on 24 August.
The complaint said new buildings are being built in a number of mosques in Thanlyin, including in the Darga mosque. The other mentioned in the letter is Sein Kyun mosque, which is situated at the corner of the Bogyoke Ne Win road and U Pho Thein Road and it called authorities to take necessary actions against the illegal constructions.
