The Oat Kya myat Pauk movie, which include, scenes, which are widely seen as discriminatory to the minority religions, has won three academy awards for 2016. The movie directed by Nyunt Myanmar Nyi Nyi Aung include scene, which portray Muslims as guests in Myanmar and Rohingya as those who came into Myanmar illegally. The movie won the best picture prize, the best director prize and best actor prize. The movie was first screened in May 2016 and it has attracted criticism among the members of minority religion. The time of screening of the film, coincide with the rising racial tensions in the country. The movie include a dialogue by a Rakhine actor Nay Toe who said bird who do not live in own nest and intrude into others will have its wings slashed and drowned in the seas which is seen as a reference to the Rohingya people. An actor Tun Tun who acted in a scene in which a Muslim guest took over his home has won the best actor price. A member of Academy selection committee U Win Nyein told Friday Time that some scene including one of Muslim children reciting Quran and Muslim family taking over the home were cut by the censor board after protest from the religious organisations.
