Here is why -
A member of the Rakhine State parliament, U Pe Than, said on 12 September that he was concerned that the growing numbers of Rohingyas in Rakhine State would dominate the Rakhine State.
The MP from the Arakan National Party (ANP) said the existing guideline on population in Rakhine State has become insufficient to stem the growing Rohingya population in the state. He said each Rohingya family has at least 20 to 30 members and if the current trend continue Rakhine population would be disappeared.
The Commander-in-Chief Senior General Min Aung Hlaing made a similar comment on 8 September during a meeting with the former secretary general of the United Nations, Mr Kofi Annan. He said Rohingya population has doubled during the past 40 years, as they do not follow the practice of monogamy as Rakhine Buddhists do.
Mr Annan visited Myanmar in early September in his capacity as the chair of the Advisory Commission on Rakhine State.
However, population statistics showed that the total Rakhine Buddhist population is 2.3 million nearly double of the Rohingya whose current population stands at 1.3 million.
