This report is Confirmed false
and is of
Medium Priority.
Here is why -
Many social media posts had claimed that X-Press Pearl, the container ship which caught fire off the coast of Colombo, Sri Lanka on 20th May 2021 had been refused entry to the territorial sea of both Qatar and India due to the risk of catching fire. However, "X-Press Pearl - Incident Information Centre", a website dedicated to providing timely and accurate information to media and other stakeholders about the incident had reported that this claim is false, as the vessel underwent discharge and loading operations in both Hamad Port in Qatar and Hazira Port in India before continuing on its planned journey to Colombo. It further mentioned that applications had been made to both ports to offload the container that was leaking nitric acid, but was advised that there were no specialist facilities or expertise immediately available to deal with the leaking unit.
