This report is Confirmed true and is of Low Priority. Here is why -
The head of General Administration Department of South Okkalapa, a suburban town in Yangon, ordered demolishing of some parts of an Islamic school in the township. The administrator together with the head of the Township Mosque Committee came into the school in Pagan Street on 10 May and asked to demolish the stage to deliver sermon and place to wash before prayers. They also went to inspect another Islamic school in Min Ye Kyaw Swa road in the same township, but not asked for any demolishing there. The principal of the Islamic school said the order was to prevent dispute with Buddhist nationalist. “we have started demolishing as per order, for place to wash we will only dismantle the seats, the washing area is needed for students to clean up ahead of their Quranic lesson,” he said on 12 May. The Islamic school in Pagan Road is situated at a long distance from a mosque and it is used for night time prayers during Muslims’ holy month of Ramadan. The demolishing for places of worship were ordered to prevent conflict with so called nationalist groups, who recently raised objection on prayers at Islamic school in Tharkayta, another Yangon’s suburb. A local resident said demolishing work, as ordered by the local administrator, was started on 11 May. He said the move to order demolishing of the parts of the Islamic school was to prevent outbreak of religious violence. There are three Islamic schools in South Okkalapa Saga School in No 4 ward, Pagan Road School in No 5 ward and Min Ye Kyaw Swa School in No 7 ward. As there is only one mosque in South Okkalapa Saga and Min Ye Kyaw Swa schools are used for prayers during Ramadan. Reference: BHRN, the name of the Principal Maulana Mufti Jafar Sahaab
