This report is Confirmed true
and is of
High Priority.
Here is why -
A report in the 14 June issue of Eleven Media newspaper carried a news on a meeting between the visiting Turkish foreign Minister and the President U Htin Kyaw and the State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. In the news it was referred Turkey as the country currently holding the rotating Chair of the Organization of the Islamic States (OIC) even though the visit was in his capacity as a member of the Turkish government.
It is seen as a deliberate attempt by Dr Than Htut Aung, the founder and Chief Executive Officer of the newspaper to provoke hatred. The news also included background information on the OIC, which was seen as out of context to the news.
However, in a new on a meeting between the Turkish Foreign Minister and the Commander-in-Chief Senior General Min Aung haling, the guest was referred only as the foreign minister of Turkey.
However, Turkey’s OIC role was mentioned in reporting on the meetings by Turkish foreign minister with the President U Htin Kyaw and Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. The news also included background information on OIC and some of the group’s activities, which are seen as out of context to the news.
The news is seen as breach of journalistic ethic, as it is written in partial way with an aim to highlight on the past tense relations between OIC and people of Rakhine State, where racial and religious tension is on the rise between the members of the Buddhist and Muslim communities.
In other publications, the Turkish FM visit was not linked to the OIC and reported only facts on the visit.
