An elected member of the ward administration from Thingangyun B ward was dismissed after it was found out that his father was not a citizen. The Immigration Department revealed on the citizenship history of the elected official Ko Maung Mung Soe, who is a Muslim. Ko Maung Maung Soe was elected in an election held transparently on 14 March. He and other person U Myint Soe were elected, but Ko Maung Maung Soe was later replaced by other candidate, after his immigration status was revealed. Ko Maung Maung Soe’s father, U Kyaw Than, was born in Myeik Tavoy township in Taninthayi region in 1926. U Kyaw Than had a three-fold green color national identification card which was issued to him during the Pha Sa Pala government era in 1958. He got voting rights in a constitutional referendum held in 1974. He also applied for new pink color national ID card in 1990 but he passed away before the card was issued to him. His application is registered in the immigration office and record as failed to issue the card.
