Here is why -
The authorities in Ma U Bin Township has reprimanded 15 Muslims after they and other members of the faith prayed together at a home in Talut Lat (East) village. They were also asked to sign an undertaking on 21 June saying that they will not gather for prayers again.
The actions from the authorities came after a complaint by a monk U Pyinnya Thara who also lives in the same village.
The Muslims earlier send an application letter to local authorities for permission for gathering at a home in the village for prayers. According U Chit Tin, who send the application on 8 June, the authorities did not respond to the request.
The Talut Lat (East) village has 30 Muslim households, the village is about 4 mile far from the nearest village Talut Lat (West) village where a mosque exists from past more than a century. However, as travel to the mosque is troublesome the villagers gathered at the home on Daw Dar Bi in the village for the five times prayers in a day. That has been a practice from the past many years.
After the ban by authorities, the Muslim villagers from Talut Lat (East) has to travel to Ma U Bin Township for prayers. And so-called nationalists are monitoring to check if there is gathering for prayers in the village.
