Hotel manager accused of theft died in police custody

A hotel manager died while he was under the police custody on 1 March. 32-year-old Ko Kyaw Thet Aung was arrested on suspension of stealing the money went missing at his Cham Myae Hotel. He reportedly died while being interrogated by a group of seven police officers led by Deputy Superintendent Hlaing Win Htun of Thaton district police station. According to the Medical Superintendent of the Thaton District Hospital, Dr Thin Ei, Ko Kyaw Thet Aung’s body was still warm when he was brought to the hospital, which led her to believe that he died shortly before his body was brought to the hospital. A case was filed against the seven police officers under the criminal procedure 302/114 with the Police Superintendent, Police Lieutenant Htun Thein acting as complainant. The case number is (3/2016) (P) 157/2016. Ko Kyaw Thet Aung was arrested in connection with missing of Kyat 11.3 million from his hotel. The police was called to the hotel after a salesman of a company Ko Htet Aung and his colleagues, who check in the hotel in the afternoon of 1 March, said their money which belong to their company was lost in the hotel.
