This report is Confirmed true and is of Medium Priority. Here is why -
A shop own by a Muslim family in Meiktila was destroyed on 9 November by a group of people came on motorbike. The attackers first used racially abusive words against the shopkeepers before they started destroying the shop. According to an eyewitness, the attackers, seven in total, came to the shop on 1 p.m. in the morning “they ordered for water bottle, and then start shouting you Kulars (a derogatory word used in Myanmar to refer Muslims and the people of Asian origins) better behave. Then they start destroying the shop. Two people were injured in the attack. A shop keeper Tin Ko Ko who is disabled person got injury on his head and needed three stiches, his younger brother Zin Win Toe was admitted to the hospital after he was fainted during the attack,”. Although the police arrested the attackers but no charges were brought against them. They were released after signing of an undertaking. Local residents believe the incident was pre-planned to incite religious violence. They says the Muslims youths attacked were the members of a family who sell food at the shop open for the whole day and night. The shop attacked is situated in front of the town’s No 1 police station. The local Muslims are afraid that the incident would spark similar attacks against them as it was during a major religious riot in the town in March 2013. Reference: Source of BHRN
