This report is Confirmed false and is of High Priority. Here is why -
A fabricated video which include threat of attack on the Shwedagon Pagoda was circulated widely on social media with tens of thousands of people watched and it was shared by at least 175 people. The video include a false claim that Bengali, who came into Myanmar illegally, are planning to blow up Yangon’s landmark, if they are not recognized as Rohingya. The video is only 20 second long and the visuals are resemblance to the shots of the pagoda in some of Myanmar movies. The video was first posted on 31 October on the Facebook page of Ashin Dhama Thiri. The post was widely read by other users of the most popular social media site in Myanmar. The video was shared among 30 000 social media users and watched by more than 400 000 people. The post was later removed from Ashin Dhama Thri Facebook page and it reappeared on the Facebook page of Zaw Zaw Aung on 3 November. The account has more than 4000 friends and 14000 followers. The Minister of Religious Affairs and Culture Thura U Aung Ko has said the security of the pagoda has increased due to threat by terrorist groups. The San Taw Chiein newspaper reported the minister’s comment in a news published on 18 November, following the video was circulated.
