Here is why -
A court in Lashio has sentenced three Muslim youths to two years jail term each under charges of insulting religion. The sentences were passed on their first court appearance on 20 June.
They were arrested three days earlier on charges of insulting religion and vandalism after doing spray painting on a Buddha statue and that of a monk, inside the compound of the East Kha Yoe Monastery. The monastery is situated in the ward no 9 of Lashio.
The three youths said they were paid to do spray painting by a group of three or four monks on the statues. They described to the police the appearances of the monks, which resemble to the monks from the Lashio chapter of Ma Ba Tha.
However, when police went to search the monks, they have already fled.
