A group of three Bengali were arrested in Thingyangyun Township in Yangon on 4 November. They were arrested from their homes in Ward A on suspicion of travelling to China illegally. The three were charged by the Thuwanna township police station under the section 13 (1) of Immigration Act of 1947. Their case is registered at the police station with the number (Pa) 972/2016. Among the arrested people, two used fake recommendation letters from the ward administrator for their travel. The two also face additional charge of fraud under the section 420 of the criminal procedure code, said a senior police office from the Eastern District Police Department. The number of people arrested in Yangon has increased in the aftermath of the 9 October attacks on the three security outposts of Myanmar security force in near Myanmar Bangladesh border. Most of the Muslims arrested under the immigration act, which carries maximum two years imprisonment or fine, are classified as illegal Bengalis. Reference: Daily Eleven 6 November.
