August 21 In an incident in Pathein , Ayeyarwady Region, in which a woman was stabbed several times by a monk who later slit his throat, the news was fabricated in the social media Facebook as Muslim Kalar [ a derogatory term used in Myanmar to describe Muslims and people of South Asian decedents] killed a monk and a woman. . The woman was stabbed by U Wunnita, a 29 year old monk of Rakhine ethnic origin in a revenge attack, the two knew each other at a time when the monk lived in Aungthar village in Pathein Township, and had an affair between them. The incident took placed in a crowded place and the woman died at the sence and the Rakhine monk was admitted to Pathein hospital and receiving treatment. Even though the eyewitnesses and media reported the true incident however Facebook accounts maintain by [Buddhist] nationalists including [U] Wirathu have carried the posts fabricated the news as a Muslim man killed a monk and a woman with an intention to incite [the Buddhists].
