Here is why -
The butcher license granted to two Muslims were cancelled in Aphyuk town in Yangon Region following a pressure from the local chapter of the Race and Religion Protection Committee (Ma Ba Tha).
The butcher license issued to U Zaw Min and U Pho Thar Aung were cancelled at an order issued by the deputy Director of Township Municipal office U Thet Aung. The cancellation came after Ma Ba Tha wrote a letter to municipal department in which it called to grant the butcher license instead to Ziwi Ta Dana Association, a pro Buddhist group, which is a subordinate to Ma Ba Tha. The Buddhist group so far paid half of the Kyat 5 million license fee.
However, Ma Ba Tha said it is not convinced by the order and the move by municipal department to accept only the half of the license fee amount. It feared that Muslims would be issued with butcher license for other place. A leading monk of Ma Ba Tha U Wira Thu wrote in his Facebook page that his group would continue to put pressure on the municipal department to completely cancel the butchers license to Muslims.
