Here is why -
A new rule has put in place for the internally displaced people in Sittwe who want to travel to Yangon for medical treatment, a senior immigration official said on 26 April.
Previously, people IDPs from camps who want to travel to Yangon for treatment need to pay Kyat 1.5 million as bribe and need to furnish medical certificate. Under the new rule, the patients who wants to seek treatment in Yangon need to be admitted to the hospital and apply for travel permit together with a letter from the doctor.
The new rule were introduced days after a boat incident involving IDPs from Sintat Hmaw IDP camp on their way to Sittwe for shopping and for medical treatment.
