Official denies permission to clean up a water pond attached to a mosque

About 100 households of the Middle ward of Wa Khe Ma Township have to depend for their water consumption on a pond attached with a mosque, which situated in the eastern side of the ward. A permission to clean up the pond was submitted to the General Administration Department since June 23 2015, but permission has not been granted yet. The pond was dug since the mosque was built and it has been using by the people from different faiths and its water was used to extinguish a major fire broke out in the town 10 years ago. The Chairman of Eastern mosque said on 6 March that the pond need for a clean up to remove mud deposited after a landslide during the last monsoon and the work need to be done during the month of March and April. He said permission has been applied to different levels of the authorities but still waiting for approval. A letter from the chair of the township Municipal Department which was sent to the mosque on 11 August 2015 said although the pond is manage by the municipal department, however, permission to clean it could only be granted by the department of Religious Affairs.
