The Khami National Development party said it is to ask the new government to grant Khami people equal rights as all the other ethnic groups in Myanmar. The General Secretary of the party told Lhudu Pone Yeik journal on 20 March that his party would ask the new government to be led by U Htin Kyaw to grant equal rights to Khami people and to recognize them as the national group of Myanmar. He said Khami people has been facing negligence by the successive governments in Myanmar and they have not get equal rights in education, economy and social fields. Majority of Khami people live in Northern parts of Rakhine State including in Mrauk-U, Pauk Taw Kyauktaw, Buthidaung, Ponnagyun and Sittwe townships.
