The Arakan Liberation Party (ALSP) said the people displaced by ongoing fighting between the Myanma Tatmadaw and the Arakan Army (AA) are facing human rights abuse against them by Myanmar army. ALP made the claim in a statement issued on 24 April. The statement said 1800 people are trapped in the fighting and 1700 people are displaced due to ongoing fighting in the state. U Khaing Myo Htun a central committee member ALP said many people in Ponnagyun, Rathedaung, Buthidaung and Kyauktaw townships are facing shortage of food, water and shelter and they are facing human rights abuses by members of Myanma Tatmadaw. He said he has eyewitness as well as video records of the alleged abuses and these evidences would be submitted to the Rakhine State Government. The ALP statement said the human rights abuse include using civilians as porters to work in the front line areas. They were also forcibly relocated and use as hostages. The Border and Security Affairs Minister of Rakhine State Colonel Htein Linn said ALP must submit evidence for its accusations on human rights abuses. U Khaing Myo Htun said the minister also asked evidence on the ALP’s claim that people were killed ruthlessly. He said the minister’s comment implies that he would be arrested unless the evidence were provided. U Khaing Myo Htun said Colonel Htein Linn promised to arrest those perpetrators if the eyewitness accounts and video records on rights abuses were found to be true.
