Here is why -
A move which started screening in Yangon and Mandalay on 6 May has drew criticism for a scene, which deem as anti-Muslim.
“Oakkya Myatpauk” directed by Nyunt Myanmar Nyi Aung included a scene which show a Muslim family taken over a home of a Buddhist mother and son, while the son was in the prison.
In that scene the son was released from prison, saw their house is taken over and his mother was sent to old age home, and place of worship at their home was disappeared.
The audience who watched the movie strongly criticized the scene which they say can incite hatreds against a religion.
A movie critic “Datshin Review” also criticized the movie for including the scene which it said was unnecessary according to the move’s story and it can be toxic to the mind of the audience.
Another scene in the movie included dialogue, which reflect discrimination against non-Buddhists, by describing them as guest and Buddhist as the host of the country.
The shooting of the movie has started in 2012 at the height of religious conflict in Myanmar and a leading monk Ashin Nareiktha, who was involved in establishing the Race and Religion Protection Committee (Ma Ba Tha), used a similar term of guest and host. The monk then described Rohinyas as guest in Myanmar.
