Here is why -
A monk supervisory committee in the Mon State capital Mawlamyine has issued an instruction to monks not to be involve in social activities as well as in violent acts. The instruction from the township chapter of the State Sangha Supervisory Committee was signed by its Chair Bandanta Nyanna Kutara.
The statement said the prime duties of the monks are to study scriptures (ganda-dhura) and to meditate (vipassana-dhura). It also said monks should not be involve in violent acts by using social matters as excuse.
The statement no 91 from the committee said on 4 july, the instruction was issued to remind the monks on the existing rules declared earlier.
The monks have been participating in the social activities as well as in religious violence along with other people. The successive governments in Myanmar has not made serious efforts to stop their involvement in such activities.
