# Burned # clashes FARDC rebels M23

This report is Confirmed true and is of High Priority. Here is why -
The NGO Tearfund had its bases in Kirumba in the south of the Lubero Territory. They decided to leave the area following the rapprochement of clashes between the M23 rebels and the Congolese Defense Forces. They left Kirumba to Lubero. On the morning of June 30, 2024, the city of Butembo was plagued by strong rumors and disinformation which sometimes announced the infiltration of rebels in the city, others said that a FARDC General hid in a hotel in the city. Some manipulated young people made nighttime checkpoints to want to check the vehicles of passers-by in several entrances to the south of the city. Unfortunately, Tearfund teams traveling at night came across a checkpoint in an isolated area of the city (Kivunano). One of the NGO workers, who is from a Kinyarwanda speaking tribe, was killed on the spot following his name and the angry crowd directly spread the rumor that the vehicles belonged to the M23 rebels. And burned them.
