Here is why -
A group of monks belong to the Patriotic Monks Group has searched a religious goods shop in the eastern wing of the Shwedagon Pagoda on 20 July. The group said they were acting on a suspicion that the shop sells the Buddha from the non-Buddhists manufactures.
The shop has been selling Buddhist religious items for nearly 30 years in the same place.
The shop owner Daw Sandar denied the claim by monks and she explained that the shop bought the statues from the same supplier who were suppling the statues from many years.
The monks during the search has committed physical abuse to the staff at the shop, throw away goods and took pictures of the shop without permission.
The trustees of the pagoda has requested the monks to send a letter of complaint to them and promised that they will take action to resolve the matter.
