This report is Confirmed true and is of High Priority. Here is why -
A series of protests were held in Rakhine State against a suggestion by the new government to refer Rohinyas in the state as “Muslims in Rakhine State”. The protests took placed in several towns in the state on 3 July. An organizer of the protests, U Soe Naing, said the protestors have expressed their views against the usage as well as referring the Buddhists in the State as “Buddhists in Rakhine State”. U Soe Naing, a resident of the State capital Sittwe, said the protestors agreed to continue to push their opinion through further protests also by taking up the issue as a national cause for the Rakhine people. The committees to organize more protests were formed and according U Win Htein, a committee member from Maungdaw Township, it include 30 members, representing all townships in the state. The political analysts says it is not a good beginning for the government led by the National League for Democracy (NLD) in its efforts to address the crisis in Rakhine State. Despite of a request by the State Counsellor, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, to the international community to avoid using the term Rohingya, the United States and the European Union said they would continue to use the term. The United Nations so far has not responded to the request. Reference: Myanmar Times
