Here is why -
THE local residents of a village in Buthidaung Township have raised objection over construction of a building in the village after a rumor circulated that the building would be use either as a mosque or Arabic school. The construction of the building has started on 23 August in Ah Twin Nghat Thay village.
The government officials has questioned the village administrator and the Islamic leaders in connection with the construction of the building. The head of Buthidaung Township General Administration Department, U Tin Latt, said the authorities have not issued any permission for construction of a religious building in the village and he said effective actions would be taken against those who built a religious building without permission.
But according to a Muslim resident from Rakhine State, it is still not clear for which purpose the building would be used. He said it could be used as a hostel. He added that in such a circumstances of inter-religious tensions it is even unthinkable to build a mosque or any other religious.
Many local Rakhine residence expressed their objections over the construction of the building and they warned that they would vehemently oppose if the building is used for religious purpose.
