THE local Rahkhine residence of Buthi Taung Township has protested against issuing citizenship identification card for 29 Rohingyas despite of explanation by the authorities that they were issued with the IDs only after found eligible under 1982 Citizenship Act. A group of 29 Rohingya/ Bengali have received their citizenship IDs on 13 August. They were previously holding the three folds citizenship IDs. The IDs were handed to them by six officials who are the members the citizenship or naturalized citizenship-scrutinizing committee. Some local people, who proclaimed themselves as nationalists, have staged protests against the government move. The scrutinizing committee members were termed as traitors. A group led by the Border Affairs and Security Affairs Minister of Rakhine State Colonel Htein Linn and the head of the State Immigration Department has met local residents on 19 August and explained to them that only those who were qualified under the 1982 Citizenship Act were issued with the citizenship cards.
