This report is Confirmed true and is of Low Priority. Here is why -
A fake news, which quoted Daw Aung San Suu Kyi of making bias comment against Buddhist, was circulated on social media earlier this month. The news she was quoted as saying that burning alive of Buddhist monks during the sectarian violence in Meiktila should be condoned and the mosques in the town should not be sealed off as they are like heart beats for Muslims, was posted on Facebook page with the name of Lin Soe Htwe. The post with the title Historical words was posted together with an question “tell me Daw Suu has not said these words”. She was quoted as saying that “I think everyone got their rights. Like we Buddhists should have right to go to our monasteries similarly Kular (a derogatory word used in Myanmar to refer to Muslims and the people of Indian origin) should have right to go to their mosques for prayers. The reason why monasteries in Rakhine were burned was because the Buddhists first destroyed their mosques. As U Ko Ni said burning of the mosques were felt to them like burning their hearts. Killing of monks does not matter, but mosques are like their hearts. It should not do like that”. Even though it is still not known, who wrote the news but it is evident that the news was post to discredit Daw Aung San Suu Kyi by using advanced computer technologies. The news was posted on 1 April, on the polling day for by-elections. The news was shared among 78 Facebook users one day after it was posted and 122 people expressed their feedbacks to the news by using emotional symbols. More than 80 Muslims were killed and thousands of other were made homeless in sectarian violence in Meiktila in March 2013. Reference: 7 Day Daily Number 1412 3 April
