Here is why -
A spokesperson of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture said all the illegally constructed religious buildings across the country, including monasteries, would be demolished.
U Aung San Win told the Voice Journal on 4 August that the ministry will take recommendation from the State Sangha Maha Nayaka committee before taking action against the illegally constructed monasteries across the country.
He said there are 173 monasteries are built illegally in Yangon Region and 86 other are in the rest of the country and they will be demolished according to the existing rules and regulations.
U Aung San Win said some of the monasteries are built on the sites designated for the economic projects.
He said the same rule will be applied to the illegally constructed religious buildings belong to the other religions, he said.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture has announced that it will take actions against the person who has transferred a privately-owned land for construction of mosque in Pha Khant town in Kachin State. The site was burnt down by Buddhist mobs in early July. The ministry said it will also take action against those involved in arson attack against the mosque.
