The State Counsellor Daw Aung san Suu Kyi denied report of genocide in Rakhine State. She said during an exclusive interview with the BBC earlier this month. The reporters asked if she was worried to be remembered as a leader who failed to prevent genocide despite of her having stature as the Nobel peace prize Laureate and champions for human rights. Her reply was “I am not worry about that, because that is not genocide, I think it is too harsh to use the word genocide to refer to what is happening in Rakhine State”. She said during the interview in Nay Pyi Taw on 5 April, said the incidents were due to conflict between the two communities, which is not qualified to be termed as genocide. She said her government was trying to narrow the differences between Rakhine and Muslims in the state. She said the government has established an advisory commission led by Dr Kofi Ann to advice the government on Rakhine State issued. The commission is conducting its mandate under the international standards and it work is ongoing. Daw Aung San Suu Kyi said the government would not accept a fact-finding mission by the United Nations, as proposed in a resolution on Myanmar adopted by the UN Human Rights Commission late last month.
