This report is Confirmed true and is of Low Priority. Here is why -
The journey to Kurinyankerni from Kinniya in the Trincomalee District is made by crossing the Kinniya Lagoon. On the 23rd November, a ferry carrying more than 30 passengers across the lagoon capsized midway, resulting in multiple deaths, including children. There was public uproar both online and offline against the government, highlighting the unavailability of a bridge. Supporters of the government claimed that the people were taking the ferry only because a bridge was under construction and therefore it is not a failure on the part of the government. However, it should be noted that even though the foundation stone had been laid to construct a new bridge across the lagoon on the 11th of April 2021, not much progress has been made.
