This report is Confirmed true and is of Medium Priority. Here is why -
Some individuals and nationalist parties are opposing the move to amend a numbers of provisions in the 2008 constitution. The National Progressive Party announced on 16 February said it would oppose any move to amend or abolish the article 59(f) of the constitution. It also said the articles from 59 (a) to (g) are important for national security and sovereignty and it will oppose, out of their nationalistic sentiment, any move toward amending or abolishment of those provisions. People involved in nationalist movement are planning to stage a protest in Yangon’s Bo Sein Hman Ground to show their support to retain article 59 (f), which is posing as an obstacle for Daw Aung San Suu Kyi from becoming president. The article 59 (f) prescribed a qualification for president, it said any person born from foreigner parents or have spouse or children with foreign national and those who are taking assistance from any foreign government is not eligible to stand as candidate for the president.
