MP not allowed to ask question related to religion

The Chair of the Pyithu Hluttaw (Lower House of Parliament) has disallowed a Member of Parliament (MP) to ask a question which was related to a religion. The question was asked by U Maung Myint, who is a MP for the Union Solidarity Party (USDP) representing Min Kin in Sagaing Region. U Maung Myint, who was a minister of Industry in the previous government, was asking on how to maintain the number cattle for ploughing before the country fully transform into mechanised farming. The question included a reference that the number of cattle has affected by slaughtering during the Muslim’s Eid-ul-Adha. The chair did not allow U Maung Myint to continue his question. U Maung Myit wanted to say that according to the figure he received from the government, the amount of beef confiscated in frozen form during the past three years were much more than what has been slaughter during Muslim’s Eid. According to the parliament rule no 141 (I) question related to a particular religion are not allow to ask in the parliament. U Maung Myint was trying to say that Muslim slaughter cattle illegally during Eid that only once in a year, however, much higher numbers of animal are exported to China through illegal channels. Dr Tun Win, the Deputy Minister of Irrigation said during a media interview last September that China is buying 200 000 cattle annually from Myanmar. There were many incidents of arrest of cattle smugglers from Sagaing and Mandalay Regions as well as from Rakhine State. According to a statement by a deputy minister of Home Affairs in the previous government which was submitted to the last term of the parliament there were 329 cases involving smuggle of cattle reported during January to September 2013 involving 4278 cattle.
