Here is why -
The Kaman leaders have criticized the Immigration Officials in Thandwe Township for describing the Kaman people as mix blood with Bengali. They said it was an insult to Kaman ethnic group and also an attempt to wipe out Kaman ethnic race.
The social network of Kaman people KESN has sent a complaint letter to the President and the State Counsellor in protest to a plan to issue Kaman people with Nationality Verification Card (NVC), which is issued to the people who need to reassess their citizenship status. The Kaman people are recognized as one of the 135 ethnic groups of Myanmar.
The Chair of the Kaman Social Network, U Ngwe Htun, said Kaman people were not given nationality identification cards when the government issued IDs to many people last year under its Moe Pwint project. He said Kaman people were also not granted citizenship when IDs were issued under the 100-day programme of the new government. Instead, Kaman from Lin Thee and Pauktaw villages of Thandwe Township were only offer NVC.
The complaint letter to the head of state called for scrapping of the plan to issue NVC to Kaman people from Thandwe, and to stop designating them as mixed blood with Bengali. The letter also called for granting Kaman with the nationality scrutiny card.
