Authorities ban prayers at three mosques in Bago

The authorities in Shwekyin Township in Bago region issued an order in October to ban prayers at the three mosque in the town. The ban affected the mosques in the villages of Done Za Yit, Thaung Lei and Che Taw Yar, which are part of Shwekyin Township. The mosque have been existed for more than six decades and the successive governments never impose ban on prayers. According to local residents, the head of Don Za Yit village has issued verbal order to lock up the mosque not to allow anyone to enter into it. Also, local residents of Thaung Lei said the trustees of the mosque were asked to sign an undertaking saying that the mosque was built without permission so they agree the ban on prayers. Among the mosque affected by the ban also, include the mosque in Che Taw Yar, which received official acknowledgement as a mosque from the Shwe Kyin Township Religious affairs department.
