Here is why -
A tribunal set up by the Union Election Commission (UEC) said a complaint alleging that so called “white card” nationality identity holders were allowed to vote in Thandwe was incorrect. The tribunal made decision on 4 February after a hearing on the complaint.
“We have acquitted the case as here was not sufficient evidence to prove the claim and also after an investigation we found the accusations were incorrect,” a member of UEC U Maung Maung Kyi said.
A central executive committee member of Arakan National Party U Maung Phyu told The Voice that the commission should made public of its report on the hearing of the case.
A protest march was organized in Thandwe shortly after the election to protest against alleged permission granted to white-card holders to vote.
In 2015 election Arakan National Party won majority of seats in Rakhine State, however, the main opposition NLD won seats in Thandwe, Taungup and Gwa Townships.
