This report is Confirmed true and is of Low Priority. Here is why -
The Committee on the Fundamental Rights of Citizens and Investigation on Special Cases of the Rakhine State parliament has submitted a report, which includes assessment on if issuing citizenship identification cards to Rohingya would be in the accordance with the law. The report was submitted to the parliament on 21 March. The report said the Township Citizenship Verification Committee have endorsed to issue citizenship without doing assessment in accordance with the law. The report also called for inclusion of the civilian representatives in the district and township level verification committees. The Union Ministry has instructed the district level verification committee to take decision based on the meeting minutes. The move aimed at expediting the process of verification. The instructions highlight the fact that the district level verification committee has the right to issue citizenship without consulting with the Union level. However, U Tun Aung Thein, who is the chair of the Rakhine State parliamentary investigation committee, said that such a move breached the citizenship law and bylaws. The investigation committee is formed with five parliamentarians of the Rakhine State parliament. The Rakhine nationalist groups and local communities have protested against issuing citizenship to Rohingya people and they also called for action against the immigration officers who sign the citizenship cards for Rohingya people.
