Here is why -
The nighttime curfew declared under the article 144 of Penal Code which was first introduced in Maungdaw in the aftermath of sectarian violence in Rakhine State in 2012 has been extended for two more months on 8 February. The order is renewed every two months since 2012.
The order was first issued on 8 June 2012 in Maungdaw under which assembly of more than 5 people either on the streets or in public places is banned. The measure have been in place for 3 years and 8 months now and it is aimed at preventing resumption of violence attacks between the two communities
