This report is Confirmed true
and is of
High Priority.
Here is why -
This has been confirmed true, the young man returning from a funeral overnight prayer was gunned down by a government soldier attached to the Kondeko post in Yei. The young man sustained a through-and-through bullet wound to the side of his stomach. This event has caused tensions in Yei, especially in the area of Kondeko, where locals took up pangas and bows and arrows to chase away all of the soldiers from their station, stating that they no longer want that post in their area because it's not doing its intended mission, which is to provide security to the people of Kondeko but rather it's the source of insecurity in the area. The soldiers in this post arrest locals who leave their houses at as early as 6:00-7:00 PM and detain them at their station, demanding heavy amounts to be paid the next day to enable the release of the people in detention. Locals have laid several complaints to the local area chief who in return did not take any action in response to the complains. As of now, the chief has not returned to his house and he remains in hiding. The deceased was laid to rest yesterday on 4 March 2025 in Yei.
