Here is why -
A group of eight Rohingya youths were arrested in Kyeik Hto on 27 July. They were supposed to be sent to Malaysia.
Those who arrested are from Kyauk Taw Township and their ages ranging from 18 to 28. They were not holding any legal citizenship documents at the time of arrest.
According to Kyeik Hto police, they were brought there by a 21-year old woman, who is from Yangon’s Southern Dagon Township.
The alleged trafficker, Ma Thet Mar Win, told the police that the eight people were to be sent to Mawlamyine first, from where they were travel to Thailand and eventually to Malaysia. She said her husband U Soe Thein (a.k.a) Kabit Ahamed, who is a driver from Mawlamyine, was to send them to Malaysia.
The couple was arrested and charged for trafficking related offenses for their attempt to send the eight people without having overseas job agency license. They are charged under article 26 of overseas employment law.
