Two Rohingya women arrested in Hlaingthayar

Police arrested two Rohingya women in Yangon Hlaingthayar town on 19 March. The pair came to Yangon from Kyauktaw and Pauktaw townships and they were arrested while staying at the home of U Khin Maung Htun at Thakhin Mya’s road of Hlaingthayar 11 ward. They were arrested by the Thaunggyi Police Station of Hlaingthayar and accused them of coming into Yangon illegally. They were arrested when the head of township Immigration and National Registration Department U Myo Win and Police Inspector Chit Ko Ko of Thaunggyi Police Station searched U Khin Maung Htun’s house. The two are identified as Ma Moh Moh (a) Huthaw Nara (22), a resident of Palan (a.k.a) Faurida Village of Pauktaw Township and Ma Kyi Kyi Khaing (a.k.a) Ni Ni (a.k.a) Sai Taw Nisar (20) from Thantaung village in Kyauktaw Township. The police said they will be charged under the sections 6(2) and 6(3) of Registration Act. And they are detained under section 2(1) of the 1947 Detention for people facing Immigration related offenses and they will be produced in the court on 21 March. Since August 2015, authorities are taking severe actions against the Rohingya people coming into Yangon as Banglai illegal immigrants. Reference: Standard Times 21 March 2016
