The Chief Minister of Bago Region, U Win Thein, said his government would not take any legal actions against those who were involved in recent attacks against Muslims in Thuye Thamin village. In the attack on 23 June a Mosque, an Islamic school as well as a cemetery and 50 Muslims, homes were destroyed by a Buddhist mob. The chief minister declined to take action despite of the call for justice by the victims. They pinned hope on a government, which was elected to the office with a mandate to promote rule of law. However, the Chief Minister and members of his government said on 29 June that no action would be taken against the perpetrators of the attacks. U Win Thein said any legal actions against the alleged perpetrators would trigger similar attacks elsewhere. He said the best way would be to find a way on how the two communities in the village can relive together harmoniously and peacefully. Even though the chief minister said no action would be taken to those who involved in Thuye Thamin attacks, however Abdul Rashid a Muslim shop owner of the village was kept in police lock up until 28 June evening. At least 200 Muslims in the village, out of total 268, had to flee the village as they afraid of further attacks. In the attacks on Muslim in Thuye Thamin village, a mob of 200 people destroyed the Mosque, an Islamic school, and 50 Muslims homes. They also attacked a Muslim man and looted valuable items from his home. Reference: Myanmar Times
