Anti-Islam agitator charged under the telecommunication Law

A leading anti-Muslim agitator, U Nay Myo Wai, is charged under the telecommunication law after he posted on his Facebook derogatory messages against the President, the State Counsellor and the Commander-in Chief. U Nay Myo Wai, who is also the Chair of the Peace and Diversity Party, is charged under article 66 (d) of the law, which is punishable up to three years imprisonment, by the Kangyi Daunk Police Station. The case was filed at a complaint by U Wai Yan Aung, who is a central executive committee member of All Myanmar Teachers Association. U Nay Myo Wai is well known for anti-Islam agitation and spreading hate messages, has tried to organize a sit in protest before he was arrested on 4 May. In his Facebook page on 1 May, he said “anyone who wants to protect from Islamization of Myanmar, and those who are against the fake Rohingya race can join a sit in protest they are invited to gather at the Tipitaka Nikal monastery starting from 3 May. He also called his supporters to stage a protest against taking action under the article 19 of peaceful assembly law against those who stage a protest in front of the US embassy after a statement issued by the embassy mentioned Rohingya. He called for three days of protest beginning from 5 May. However, U Nay Myo Wai was arrested on 4 May on the highway and he is lodged in the Pathein Jail. The Kan Gyi Daunk court decided on 19 May to press a charge against him under the article 66 (d) of telecommunication act. In a Facebook post in last October, U Nay Myo Wai called the voters to boycott a pro-Muslim party UNC. He then wrote, “do not vote Muslim Kular party which is systematically planning to taken over Myanmar and force the country under the influence of devil Islamic religion”. A central executive committee member of UNC reported to the Tamwe Police station to take action against U Nay Myo Wai. The case is registered by police, the case number is (P) 1270/15, but so far, no further action was taken by police.
