Here is why -
A comment by the Chief Minister of Mandalay Region, Dr Zaw Myint Maung, to the students not to sign a pro-Bama song Zartiman in schools has attracted criticism on the social media.
The Chief Minister made the comment at inauguration ceremony of a school in Ye Nge village in Pyin Oo Lwin on August 27.
Dr Zaw Myint Maung suggested to the headmistress of the Ye Nge Affiliated High School that the song is discriminatory against the members of other races. He said love for one’s race should only have in mind.
He said the song is also outdated in the globalized world.
Dr Zaw Myint Maung’s comment attracted widespread criticism on the social media and he is called as a person without love for own race and as a person who will destroy Myanmar.
The song was composed by a famous composer Shwe Taing Nyunt in 1939 and sang by singer Awba Thoung. The song was to motivate Myanmar people to fight against British colonialists. The song include encouragement to fight against the British and other foreigners in the country, which could be seen in today’s world as discriminatory against the members of the minority race and religion.
