Member of a minority religion laments on lack of recognition

The members of Bhamasoe faith a minority religion in Myanmar said their religion is not officially recognized and they are not allow mentioning with their religion in the citizenship identification card. On September 30, a leader of the faith Saw Tamala Say said, “Our religion is not officially recognized, the immigration department asked us to identify ourselves as either Buddhist or Christian. The Immigration Department says they do not have instruction on how to identify our religion”. Saw Tamala Saw, who is the district leader in Ayeyarwady Region, said the religion was established in 1866 by Bo Paik San and believers live in Yangon, Ayeyarwady, Bago regions. He said the religion is mixed with the teachings of Christian and Buddhism and one distinct practice of the Bhamasoe religion is to have non-vegetarian food on every Wednesday and on the full moon days. The members of the religion said they have believe the last God, Ashin Mita Buddha, would be emerged. Reference: Sources of BHRN
