30 Rohingya Muslims arrested since Myanmar New Year

During the period of two weeks since the beginning of Myanmar Traditional New Year, at least 30 Muslims were arrested on immigration offenses. According to news agencies, 3 people were arrested in Taunggyup on 16 April and on the next day, 12 people were arrested in Ye Kyi in Pathein, 2 in Gwa and 5 in Kyauk Taw Township were also arrested. Also on 22 April, 3 people were arrested Thantwe. Among them, the most famous incident is the one in Taunggyup in which a war veteran and a reporter from crime journal were arrested along with the people they tried to smuggle to Yangon. There was criticism against the action of the journalist by the media industry and his publication the Crime Perspective had to issue statement related to the involvement of the journalist. Majority of those arrested include IDPs and they include people from different age groups and male and female. They were arrested while being smuggle out of Yangon by traffickers.
