This report is Confirmed true and is of Medium Priority. Here is why -
The country’s upper house of parliament (Amyotha Hluttaw) has approved on 2 June a motion by the government to scrap a law that requires citizens to register the guest staying overnight at any home. The proposal also called for decriminalizing on failing to do so. However, the move is opposed by extremist elements who are using the government move to incite race and religious hatreds. A number of posts of Facebook criticized the government plan, saying that the new NLD-led government is trying to protect illegal immigrants in Rakhine State, who are called by Rakhine Buddhists as “Bengali”. The posts said after the requirement for registration is removed they could freely move across the country. They also criticized the NLD government for placing the interest of Kular (a derogatory term used in Myanmar to refer Muslims and people of South Asian origins) in front of the national interest.
