Here is why -
“In national identification card processing, only the 1982 national law will be applied for Rohingyas from Buthidaung after withdrawing the white cards,” said State Immigration Officer, U Saw Neing.
This comment came after Rakhine groups objected immigration department for using 1948 citizenship law to verify nationality status of Rohingya.
Initially the verification process was carried out under the law of 1948 National Act and 1948 National act of being citizens of Myanmar. But after objection of Rakhine organizations the immigration department decided to use 1982 national law which makes impossible for Rohingyas to become citizens of Myanmar.
“When we process for national identification card we only use the 1974 Institutional Law 11(kha)and 3 acts from the 1948 National Act of Being Citizens of Myanmar. The 1948 National Act of Law is not used at all”, said U Saw Neing.
