Here is why -
A senior Monk U Pamauk Kha has called for legal actions against the United States Ambassador to Myanmar for insulting Myanmar’s sovereign rights. The monk made the comment in a hearing of a case against him at the Kamayut Township Court.
U Pamauk Kha together with two other monks and 4 persons were put on trial under article 19 of the peaceful assembly law for organizing a protest in front of the US embassy in Yangon in April. The superintendent of the Kamayut police station is acting as the complainant in the case.
They protested against a statement issued by US embassy in which the term Rohingya was used. The US embassy statement was to express sympathy at the loss of lives in a boat incident in Sittwe.
During his first hearing on 16 August U Pamauk Kha asked the judge if charges would be pressed against the Ambassador Scott Marciel for his alleged insult to sovereignty rights of Myanmar. He said legal action should be taken against the top US diplomat in Myanmar.
